Beautiful stone patio with lush garden surroundings

Boise, Idaho

Outdoor spaces built to last — and endure.

Juniper Ridge designs and builds patios, retaining walls, and drought-tolerant gardens for Boise homeowners who want craftsmanship that holds up through Idaho's seasons.

What We Build

Three services. One standard of quality.

Every project at Juniper Ridge is designed for Boise's high desert climate — beautiful through spring blooms, summer heat, and the freeze-thaw cycles of Idaho winters.

Relax in style on a beautiful stone patio with outdoor furniture, greenery, and loungers

Patios

Natural flagstone, concrete pavers, or dimensional slab — designed to fit your yard's grade, your home's style, and how you actually use your outdoor space.

  • Flagstone, pavers, and slab options
  • Proper base prep and drainage grading
  • Fire pit and seating wall integration

Retaining Walls

Engineered for Idaho's soil and frost line. We build walls that hold — whether that means reclaiming a sloped backyard, managing erosion, or creating terraced planting beds.

  • Concrete block, natural stone, and boulder walls
  • Grading and drainage behind the wall
  • Tiered designs for larger grade changes

Drought-Tolerant Gardens

Native and adapted plants chosen for Treasure Valley conditions — deep color and texture through summer without heavy irrigation. Designed to look intentional, not accidental.

  • Plant selection suited to Zone 6b/7a Boise
  • Mulch and gravel application to retain moisture
  • Drip irrigation planning and installation

The Boise Backyard Problem

Idaho's climate is demanding. Most landscapes aren't built for it.

Boise's freeze-thaw cycles crack patios with shallow bases. Summer heat scorches plantings that look fine on a nursery tag but weren't selected for Treasure Valley summers. And retaining walls built without proper drainage fail within a few seasons.

The result: homeowners spend money twice. Once on a project, and again to fix or replace it.

Built for Boise means built for what Boise actually does to outdoor spaces.

Climate-first design

Every project starts with your specific site conditions — soil type, slope, sun exposure, and drainage — not a catalog template.

Materials that hold

Compacted base layers, proper drainage behind walls, and plants proven in Idaho's Zone 6b/7a conditions — not whatever's cheapest on the truck.

One team, start to finish

Design and installation handled by Juniper Ridge — no subcontracting the build to whoever's available. Consistent craft, consistent accountability.

How We Work

From first conversation to finished project

Every Juniper Ridge project follows a clear, four-step process designed to keep you informed and confident at every stage.

1

Site Visit

We walk your property together, talk through your goals and budget, and look at what the terrain and soil are actually asking for. No fee, no pressure.

2

Design & Estimate

We put together a clear written proposal — materials, scope, timeline, and price. You see exactly what you're getting before any work starts.

3

Installation

Our crew handles the build from start to finish — no handoffs to subcontractors. We keep the site tidy and keep you updated as the project moves forward.

4

Final Walkthrough

We walk the finished project with you, answer any questions, and make sure every detail is right before we consider it done.

We know your soil

Treasure Valley soil is alkaline clay-loam with variable drainage. That changes how we build bases, select plants, and size drainage. Knowing this ahead of time prevents the problems other contractors fix after the fact.

We know your seasons

Boise's temperature swings from 105°F summers to sub-zero cold snaps. Every material choice we make accounts for that range — so patios don't heave and plants don't fail after the first hard winter.

We're licensed in Idaho

Juniper Ridge Landscaping is a licensed contractor in the state of Idaho — so you're covered, and the work meets code.

Common Questions

Questions homeowners ask before they get started

What's the best time of year to have landscaping work done in Boise?
Spring (April–June) and fall (September–October) are ideal for most projects. Soil is workable, plants establish more easily, and temperatures are moderate. We do work through summer, though planting schedules shift to protect new plants from peak July and August heat. We also do site prep and hardscape installation in winter when the ground isn't frozen.
How do you price a landscaping project?
Every project is priced individually based on your site, materials, and scope. We provide a detailed written estimate after a free site visit — materials, labor, and timeline are all spelled out clearly before any work begins. We don't give ballpark quotes over the phone because site conditions vary too much to be accurate without a visit.
Can you work with an existing yard, or do you only start from scratch?
Both. We regularly work with existing yards — adding a patio to an established garden, building a retaining wall along an existing fence line, or replacing a section of lawn with drought-tolerant planting. We'll assess what's there and tell you honestly what makes sense to keep and what needs to change.
Do drought-tolerant gardens still need watering?
Yes, especially during establishment. Drought-tolerant plants still need regular watering in their first season or two while roots develop. After that, irrigation needs drop significantly compared to a conventional lawn or garden. We design with drip irrigation in mind and can help you plan a system that makes establishment easy and long-term water use low.
How long does a typical patio or retaining wall project take?
Project timelines vary by scope and season. A standard patio installation typically takes two to five days on-site. A retaining wall can range from one day for a small structure to a week or more for a larger tiered build. We'll give you a specific timeline in your estimate, and we communicate clearly if anything changes during the job.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Juniper Ridge Landscaping is a licensed contractor in Idaho and carries general liability insurance. We're happy to provide proof of both before any project begins.
